The office aims to establish a sound global environmental risk assessment system as well as strengthen environmental risk management and regulation. It focuses on theoretical research progress and application innovation of chemical safety, environmental and health policy, health economics, and environmental remediation, thereby leading the development of research between environmental science, health, policy, and society. A broad outline of the section includes:

1) Innovative methods, approaches, and models for chemical risk assessment on human health and ecological environment; risk assessments on highly persistent, highly bioaccumulative and highly toxic chemicals; potential risk research on emerging chemicals, such as nanomaterials, biomaterials, etc.; prevention and control measures based on life cycle risk assessment of chemicals;

2) Impact assessment of government policymaking on the relationship between ecology and health; study of synergies between government, civil society, or business on environmental health issues and policy-making; proposal of policy actions and impact pathways in environmental health;

3) Definitions and impacts of the environmental and economic determinants of human health; evaluation of medical and health standards from the perpective of individual economy; the overall evaluation of the social, medical, and health system; interdisciplinary research of environment-health-medical-economy;

4) New ideas and mechanisms for water, soil, and air pollution control based on the ecological environment and actual industrial treatment processes; new technologies and methods for solid waste treatment, disposal, and recycling; structural design of advanced functional materials for environmental remediation in specific scenarios; micro analysis of structure activity relationship and interfaces between material and pollutants.
