On December 8, 2021, the Launching Ceremony of Eco-Environment & Health (EEH), jointly organized by Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (NIES), and Nanjing University (NJU), was successfully held in Nanjing.
EEH Advisory Committee Member and Academician Daoji Cai, NIES Director Keqiang Zhao, NJU Vice President Zhenlin Wang, Editor-in-Chief and Academician Guibin Jiang and Hongqiang Ren, NIES Secretary Guocai Liu, NIES Deputy Director Haigen Xu and Weixin Li, and EEH Editorial Board Members attended the ceremony. The EEH Launching Ceremony was hosted by NIES Deputy Director Haigen Xu.
Yingmin Zhao, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a written speech for EEH titled "The efforts we devote should be unremitting so that the future we make shall be promising." Yu Liu, Director of the Department of Earth Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation of China, also made an online speech in which she expressed her ardent expectation for EEH.
NIES Director Keqiang Zhao made a speech and stated that EEH will build a high-quality open-source science and technology information international exchange platform. He believed that EEH will significantly advance research and problem-solving in biodiversity, environmental health, and other related fields, and promote global knowledge innovation as well as a comprehensive and inclusive "One Health" strategy, making greater contributions to the establishment of human community health.
During the ceremony, NIES Secretary Guocai Liu introduced the mascot of EEH “Dr. One” (a.k.a. "Yi Yi" in Chinese), which means "One Health, All Lives" and thus reflects EEH's concept of "Leading Ecology and Environment to a Healthy Future". Zhenlin Wang, Vice President of NJU, stated that NJU will give full play to the supporting role of the discipline foundation, inject more scientific and top academic thinking into EEH, and improve the content quality of the journal.
Academicians and Co-Editors-in-Chief Guibin Jiang and Hongqiang Ren pointed out in their speeches that the establishment of EEH will promote interdisciplinary and innovative research in the fields of ecology, environment, and health. EEH is committed to not only solving problems in the eco-environment and human health but also better contributing to the construction of Beautiful China. Additionally, EEH will provide a first-class service and platform for the publication and dissemination of scientific research, enhancing the value of scientific research results. It is hoped that with the efforts of all parties, EEH will remain true to its original aspiration, adhere to the journal quality as the lifeline, and promote EEH to be a world-class journal. The representatives of Elsevier also congratulated EEH on its launch.
Depart now and we shall be arriving although the road ahead is long and beset with difficulties. The efforts we devote should be unremitting so that the future we make shall be promising.
